In California, CSI isn’t Just a TV Show

The state of California has always been on the leading edge of green technology. Statistics indicate that over half of the country’s solar power industry is based in that state, nearly $3 billion of the state’s total economy. Increasing the reach of solar electricity is the foundation of the California Solar Initiative, or CSI.

CSI provides rebates to consumers of the three major electric utilities in California. These are San Diego Gas & Electric, Pacific Gas and Electric, and Southern California Edison. Under CSI, California solar rebates are available for existing homes as well as existing or new agricultural, non-profit, government and commercial buildings. The other program under CSI offers a solar hot water rebate program to fund solar thermal systems (hot water) for businesses and homes.

Additional solar initiative are available through more than a dozen utilities across the state. This includes the Single-family Affordable Solar Homes program and the Multifamily Affordable Solar Housing program. Residents of the state can find out which programs apply to them by contacting their local electrical utility or visiting the state’s official website.

Direct Selling? What’s That?

Direct selling has been around as long as there have been traveling salesman . Imagine the merchant who moved from village to village selling cookware, cutlery, cloth and other goods from his wagon. He’d pull up to each farmhouse in a community or a street corner in a larger town and provide customers products and materials they wouldn’t otherwise have. In the 21st century, direct sales is a little more sophisticated, but the employees of Southwestern Company and others like it still bring their products directly to the consumer rather than waiting for the consumer to come to them.

by definition direct sales is a category of marketing. Sales reps sell directly to customers without a fixed storefront. These are person-to-person sales that usually take place in the home, though with the internet, the number of remote sales is increasing. In home sales can involve door-to-door sales or prearranged home parties, such as those offered by some clothing and housewares companies. In most cases the sales rep is an independent seller, not employed by the parent company, but running their own business through special licensing and contracts.

If you’re considering a career, or a supplemental job, in direct sales, be sure to do your research into the company’s products, philosophy, and earnings potential. There are a lot of scams in the direct sales field, including many multi-level marketing schemes which require you to recruit others in order to make any profit. If at all possible, talk to other sales reps, besides the one who is recruiting you, and make use of websites such as SouthWestern Alumni where former employees discuss their experiences with the company.

Professional Golf Students

It may seem counter-intuitive to put the words “professional” and “student” in the same phrase, but there are, in fact, professional golf students. Most are attending private golf school or a regular university to obtain a degree in golf management. This allows them to combine their golf obsession with focused, certified training in both golf skills and business management.

Golf management programs usually cover everything from golf skills and tournament rules to budgeting, course management, and hospitality management skills. Students also learn principles of coaching and usually spend some time in a professional internship.

Many students who complete these programs are drawn by the fact that they can continue to play golf for credit — a dream come true for many. Some will go onto to play golf professionally, participating in sanctioned tournaments in the US and foreign countries. Others will go directly to positions managing golf courses and athletic programs in schools or at golf clubs around the country. Another option for those with a golf management degree is to teach golf at courses, schools, or to private individuals.

The best part about obtaining a degree in golf management is that it allows golfers the chance to turn a passion into a variety of professions. Not many people get that opportunity.

The Hydes in Grand Canyon Romantic History

For a place that’s so enormous and impossible to contain in any imagination, the Grand Canyon makes up for the mystery of its geography with an equally compelling mystery of human story. It’s one of the great things about the place, and one that will continue for generations, attracting visitors by the score to Grand Canyon hotels and the other businesses in the area. The legends about very difficult hikes, the most dangerous miles of rafting in the Colorado River, and the idea of adventure that generations of peoples have known here, all make for some curious visitors. But there is really nothing like a great romantic ghost story to make the place come into its most enticing light.

In the year 1928, a newlywed couple named Glen and Bessie Hyde set out to raft the Canyon on their honeymoon. She would have been the first woman in documented history to do so. However, their raft was later found, with all their belongings, and no trace of the people. It is widely believed that they must have encountered problems on Mile 232, the most difficult part of the journey, where low water levels and five particularly nasty rocks makes it almost impossible, especially in those days. It is also speculated that perhaps there was foul play. Most appealing, however, there are some who think they decided to leave behind their old identities, move out west, and start another life. It’s a mystery.

The Appeal of Road Maps

The twentieth century could be called the century of the car. By mid-century, a sprawling highway system connected points throughout the United States and families took off on vacation armed only with a variety of colorful road maps to explore the scenic countryside or to navigate from major city to major city. While today’s travelers rely more and more on GPS or a digital map that they can customize, there is something lost when the directions simply get you from point A to point B. Physical road maps offer a bigger picture, showing whats in between and alongside your final destination.

The first modern road maps were promotional items given away by gas companies and highlighting the location of their stations in a given area. Later, city and state governments realized they could promote their cultural, geographical, and scenic attractions and began producing maps to distribute at tourist information centers. Eventually an entire industry of map printers grew to meet the avalanche of demand. Even when companies began charging for maps and later road atlases, there remained a steady demand for printed road maps. However, those earlier maps still remain. Collectors are drawn to antique stores, garage sales, and swap mets to find the missing vintage california map to complete their collection or join the Road Map Collectors Association to share stories with like-minded hobbyists.

Travel Reasons and Priorities of Young Adults

When a student is planning to study abroad there is usually a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm that comes along with the idea and preparation. And if that student is in high school and is going to become a foreign exchange student, then their parents are most likely going to take care of all the arrangements and needs for them. This allows that student to simply enjoy and experience this great life event. However, if that student is an adult and is studying at the college level, then there is a lot more responsibility placed on their preparation for the trip.

Of course there are other reasons why a college aged person might be planning extended trips to foreign countries and these usually include some great adventure and physical excursions . Regardless of the reason you might be planning to spend time in a foreign country, it is extremely important that you look into visitor health insurance . If you happen to be traveling for sports related reasons and are part of a team, then this is likely to be discussed, and sometimes even arranged, by your coach or team leader. But if you are planning an independent trip with friends to hike your way through Europe, it is extremely important that make sure you have insurance coverage before you leave.

Q&A in the 21st Century

The asking and answering of questions is among the oldest forms of communication on the planet; usually, we ask questions because of a specific need to know how to perform a task, or how to get a job, or the best way to take care of a newborn. For thousands of years, it’s been the principle way people achieve knowledge and grow. It’s at the basis of our schools, it’s at the basis of business, and the basis of all our social interactions, with everyone providing advice, solicited or unsolicited, so much that even comedians offer their opinions on the subject in a straight-forward manner, such as Joan Rivers , who once advised, “Don’t follow any advice, no matter how good, until you feel as deeply in your spirit as you think in your mind that the counsel is wise.”

In the past, one found counsel in authority figures, which were limited to those people in your immediate area, such as your parents, your extended family (aunts, uncles, grandparents), or friends (whose grasp on the question may have been as limited as your own), or teachers. Only a handful of people were accessible, but since the 21st Century and the Internet, that’s all changed. Now, it’s possible to reach out to experts in whatever field you need for a quick Q&A . Clearly, you should only act upon the advice, as Rivers suggest, if you feel the counsel is wise, but with the various expert websites available, you can be pretty confident that you’ll get the answers you need quickly.
