Tetsuya’s Restaurant in New South Wales
In Australia, local cuisine is far more sophisticated than toast and Vegemite , a dark brown paste made of yeast extract, especially if you’ve made a reservation at 529 Kent Street in Sydney. Here, you’ll find the home of Tetsuya’s Restaurant , where an internationally renowned chef, Tetsuya Wakuda has made a home for foods steeped in the tradition of Japan with natural, seasonal flavors, heightened by French technique, and based on local foods.
Degustation is a word that belies its meaning. Certainly, the sound of the word doesn’t seem as if it should refer to an excellent meal out, but it simply means a careful and appreciative tasting of foods, usually a small portion samples of a chef’s signature dishes, accompanied by wine. At Tesuya’s Restaurant, there’s an eleven-course degustation menu available for about $200 per person. This menu changes often, but it might start with something as simple as chilled cold corn soup with saffron and vanilla ice cream, moving to smoked ocean trout and avruga, then three New Zealand scampi. The signature dish might be Petuna ocean trout with knobu and fennel, then Queensland spanner crab with an avocado soup. Desserts might include chocolate ganache with green tea and red beans or a beetroot and blood orange sorbet.
Tetsuya’s has been awarded the highest rating available in the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide, as well as Restaurant of the Year and Best Fine Dining at the Restaurant & Catering Association Awards. The restaurant itself offers private dining rooms for group bookings and two main dining rooms which overlook a Japanese garden. The restaurant is open for diner Tuesday to Saturday from six in the evening and open to lunch only on Saturdays from twelve noon.
The chef began his journey to Australia in 1982, at the age of 22, when he picked up a job as a kitchenhand. Less than ten years later, he opened his own restaurant in 1989, and this restaurant filled up quickly, with daily waiting lists. He moved to the latest location in 2000, where he continued to grow his reputation. Wherever you might be in New South Wales, no matter what hotels , if you have an adventurous taste for fine degustation, then find your way to 529 Kent Street.
Experiencing Atlanta’s History
Atlanta Georgia has some very rich history to explore. There are endless events and people who have contributed to the city, state and country that are featured at many of the museums in the city. They have spent some real time and money putting together a real comprehensive collection of the growth of a Nation. This city and state have been the home of some really early major events. Check out the Atlanta history Center for information on a number of museums. The different museums and gardens are not far from many hotels in Atlanta who can send you in the right direction.
The Atlanta History Center is located on over 30 acres of land. It houses the largest history museum in the Southeast. There are two historical homes to visit. One is the Swan House which is one of the most recognized landmarks of Atlanta. The other is the Tullie Smith Farm which is an old plantation house built by Robert Smith’s family in 1840. It is National Historic Place and has other farm buildings on the property. It is a great display of the conditions people lived in during that time and there are some tours available to learn more about nineteenth century Georgia.
Another history lesson can be found at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History . This museum will take you through the history of the world with many exhibits showcasing animals, events and lives from other countries. The Walking through time in Georgia exhibit is a unfolding story of the natural history that took place on the Georgia land as well as the lands of other countries. This museum has a wonderful exhibit of shells which is very interesting to collectors as well as the amateur admirer. They show how the shells are made, how the different animals use their shells while living their little life. This is also, of course, a lesson of the life being lived in the Georgia waters and also those of the world.
Crown Jewels and The Tower of London
Originally, the Crown Jewels of London were kept in Westminster Abbey , in a side chamber next to the Chapter House, where monks used to meet for daily prayers in the 13th Century. In the 14th Century, however, the jewels were relocated to the Tower of London , where they’ve been ever since.
While the jewels are still used by the Royal Family and the Queen, they’re available for anyone to see who visits the Tower. Once a fortress and home for the kings and queens of England, these buildings are now a monument to the past of England, containing an ancient collection of armour and weaponry, royal crowns, jewels, and diamonds.
The White Tower was built during the reign of William the Conqueror, a twenty-one year period from 1066 to 1087, when it served as both a palace and fortress. Inside the White Tower, you’ll discover the Royal Armouries which come from an arsenal that served medieval kings and their armies. The collection seen today is mostly from the reign of Henry the Eighth, from 1509 to 1547.
Inside the Martin Tower, you’ll be able to view a special exhibit titled, “Crowns & Diamonds: The Making of the Crown Jewels.” This exhibit explores how diamonds and the part they play in the British crowns evolved over time. The display includes five royal crowns, in use between 1715 and 1939, and over 12,000 diamonds.
The Tower of London also includes the Tower Green, where prisoners were kept, including Sir Walter Raleigh, imprisoned for 13 years, as well as the Scaffold Site, where two of King Henry the Eighth’s wives, Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard, were beheaded. Their final resting place is a few feet away, inside the Chapel Royal of St. Peter ad Vincula.
The Tower is home today to about 150 people, including the Yeoman Warders, also known as The Beefeaters, who act as tourist guides in addition to their ceremonial roles. A limited number of ravens are here, too, because, according to legend, Charles the Second was told that if the Ravens left the Tower, the monarchy would collapse. It’s tradition now to always keep ravens at the tower, and they’re cared for by one of the Beefeaters, whose title is the Ravenmaster. While the Tower was once the home of kings and still the home of ravens, certainly travelers can find a more comfortable hotel throughout London .
Five Things Small Property Managers Need to Know That Large Companies Already Do
There are two types of property managers: the big corporations and the small groups, sometimes consisting of just one or two people, sometimes a few more. Large companies like Transglobe Property Management Services are usually aware of the kinds of things that can keep a property manager from filling vacancies, but most smaller groups, or even home owners who are renting out a second home may have a hard time with these things.
If you are a property manager, here are a few things you should know.
1. Many landlords will briefly go over one or two rental agreements to see which one they want to ask people to sign, and they will never really go in depth to see exactly what all is detailed in the agreement. Sometimes there are things in these agreements that will keep your future tenants from renting from you. Make sure you review carefully each rental agreement and that it is relevant to you and the tenant.
2. That leads into the next one. Be willing to edit the lease as necessary. You may find that for a certain tenant you are more willing to hire and take care of certain things, but you will need a small rise in rent or something similar.
3. Decide who does the property maintenance. If there is a pool you need to have set out in the lease who pays for pool maintenance, who pays for yard maintenance. If they think you are going to do it and you think they are going to do it, it may make the space unlivable for them, and unlivable for your next tenants as well.
4. Get an attorney. Not only will you want him to look over your lease agreement before both parties sign it, but you will also want to make sure you have plans in action in case you end up with a bad tenant. A bad tenant can rob you of money and time and keep you from getting your property rented out again when they are gone. There is a reason that Transglobe Property and other professional property management companies have several attorneys they can turn to at any given time.
5. It is ok to evict tenants who will not comply with the terms of living in your property. If they are a fire hazard, or simply aren’t paying their rent, this can be enough reason to terminate the lease. If you don’t, you may end up paying a lot of money, or not being able to rent the property again for a long time. If they can’t pay the rent for several months, that is time that you also can not get a tenant in there who can pay the rent.
Noah and the Rhythms of Tennis
The world warms up this time of year, and the shifting temperatures move from one season into another, signifying the beginning of another tennis season. As Wimbledon tennis starts to enter into the news again, with renewed interest in what the favorite players are doing this year, the history of the game becomes a subject of conversation again in pubs and cafes. People start to take interest in the newcomers, wondering what new stars might come out to shine, and also remembering the old favorites.
For tennis, like in any sport, it can be a difficult life to be an athlete. The winners enter into a kind of cult of personality, and become instant celebrities. There is also a great deal of pressure with this role, because it’s something that happens to athletes when they are young, and that can make the later years more difficult, when the attention wanes and the spotlight goes to someone else. For some tennis pros, like Yannick Noah , reinvention of the self is what has to come next, because life is short, and there are always new possibilities and talents to mine.
The player who was featured as the central figure in so many French Open highlights in the early 80s has refused to leave the public spotlight. Even with the splendid career that he’s had on the court, it’s tough to call whether that center stage has been eclipsed by his present public persona. Not every athlete has the opportunity to enjoy a second career as a major figure in pop and reggae , but then again, not everyone has so many talents running in so many directions at once.
His presence on stage is as compelling as it was on the courts, and his talent for music has obviously been in him even when he was playing on grass and concrete. This is also accompanied by an enormously generous spirit, being an active presence in global charity work. This is a true celebrity, one who has an amazing ability to persist in many different fields, and the persistence has paid off, every single time. The dreadlocks that caught the attention of tennis fans now swing to music audiences, and that brings up some questions, wondering what he might decide to be in his next incarnation of self.
Great Theatre, Art, Music and Food in New York
The one thing you cannot do in New York City is to be at a loss for something to do or see. That might be a silly phrase but it is also the truth. There is an endless offering of great stage shows on Broadway, Off Broadway and Off Off Broadway, which typically means everything else. In addition, there are a number of museums, galleries and other art exhibit spaces that present some of the best original works in all mediums. The music scene is another example of one of the city’s thriving cultural aspects and there are opportunities to see and hear the best of symphonic music, rock bands, as well as jazz, blues, country and any and all other genres of music.
If all of this bores you then there is plenty of shopping to do and some of the best department and retail stores in the nation. However, that might not last your entire vacation and you may want to start exploring some of the popular landmarks and attractions of the city. Be careful though, this could actually take up your entire vacation. You would be better off writing down some of the top attractions you would like to visit, such as Times Square, the Lincoln Center , The Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty among others.
And if you are being stubborn at this point and still haven’t found the exact right thing you would like to do then you probably fall into the category of people that loves a great meal. And what category is this? Well, it’s everyone of course, so there is almost no way it won’t include you and New York has some of the best opportunities for having the greatest dining experience of your life. And this is true whether you prefer a slice of pizza or a four-course dinner. From sandwiches to stakes, you are guaranteed to find something to love in one of New York’s restaurants, diners or street vendors. With all of this being said, the challenge remains for any tourist in New York to find themselves at a loss for something to do.
Nancy Spero: In Memory of in NYC
It’s always difficult when a brilliant artist’s life comes to an end, even if it was full, and even if it was long. Nancy Spero had a magnificent career, with a lifetime of very provocative work that made art lovers wake up, and generations of artists inspired to follow their own inner vision. She was in her 80s when she passed last winter, and her artistic output still didn’t seem to be wavering, and perhaps that’s the most tragic part.
Mortality is a part of the ride, but when there’s work inside an artist that’s unfinished, the world recognizes that it will never come to be. Perhaps that’s perfectly suitable for a woman who had adopted Antonin Artaud as one of her personal heroes. An unlikely choice for a hero, but somehow manages to make it on a lot of visionary lists, Artaud’s own ideas about mortality come close to rivaling the spookiness of death itself, and Spero’s work was singularly unafraid to look into the eye of the haunted without blinking.
Born in 1926, she studied in Chicago and Paris before moving to New York in 1964. This was at the height of the Civil Rights Movement, and the Viet Nam War was well underway, and both of these gave her a lot of material to work with. This was the period when she would start to integrate the themes of war in contemporary culture into her paintings, and it’s something that would characterize her work for the next four decades.
She was a true visionary artist, and broke ground for many others to follow, and also walked in well-traveled paths accompanied by the inspiration of the artists of the past. That might be one of the things that distinguishes a real genius, the ability to position oneself in a present as well as a past, and find one’s way in their particular continuum. It is artists like her that bring people to the city, to book nights in New York luxury hotels , and touch the city that inspires and challenges, holding mortal bodies that make immortal works.

Klezmer in Chicago
With its rich urban life that builds on a long and complex history, Chicago is one of Illinois’ great meeting places of culture. There are plenty of new innovations here, in music, architecture, and art, and they all build upon the past. Some of the pasts are very local, connected to things that happened here in Illinois, and some are very global, drawing on the histories of the various ethnic communities that make up Chicago. It’s a dizzying thing to enter into a public space here, having just left the hotel to catch a new exhibition, and happen by some of the most sumptuous music that comes from long ago.
If the music has an accordion, violins and horns, and sounds alternately Romanian in origin, and alternately Jewish, then that just might be klezmer . Klezmer is an old musical form that can still be heard in the US, especially where there are Eastern European descendants who maintain strong connections to their roots. In many ways, it has become something of a new form in the so-called new world, having adapted new musical structures and songs into its mix. It’s something that can excite ethno-musicologists to no end, and it can also have a particularly marvelous affect on anyone else who happens to be in its proximity.
One of the best and most traditional bands in town is very probably Tum Balalaika , who take their name from an old klezmer classic. The band can vary between 5 and 15 members, and always carries a palpable aura of enchantment. This is old world stuff, and there’s nothing about it to suggest that it’s an act. They love playing the music, and the passion carries through to the crowds as well. They’ve followed in the traditional line for developing their sounds, taking the Romanian and Jewish elements, and combining with a sturdy influence from the Ukranian Gypsy forms. It might come from the 15th century, and at times it feels like being transported back into another time, but it makes beautiful noise in the air today.
