Black Tie for Men
Dress codes for social events are generally unstated. It is assumed that attendees know the appropriate dress and will arrive suitably attired. Special events, such as weddings, benefit galas, and annual celebrations may include a note on the invitation indicating whether it is a white tie or black tie event. In America, black tie is much more common than white tie for formal occasions, generally because it allows for a greater freedom of personal expression.
While white tie has strict standards for men’s dress, black tie permits a bit more flexibility. When arranging for a tuxedo rental , men can chose from a number of different styles and even play with subtle changes in color in order to express their personality. They just need to stay within certain guidelines.
The trousers of a tuxedo usually have a satin or silk braid covering all outer seams while the jacked has ribbed silk facings on a shawl collar or, sometimes, a peaked lapel. The tuxedo includes a cummerbund or a low-cut waistcoat. These are usually black, but can sometimes be substituted with colored or patterned material.
Tuxedos traditionally are worn with a white dress shirt with a turn down collar. Again, it is sometimes acceptable to vary the shirt color, with black on black tuxedos being popular at certain celebrity functions . Socks and shoes should be black. Socks should be fine wool or silk while shoes can be either patent leather court shoes or oxfords or a highly polished shoe. Cuff links are standard accessories while shirt studs are optional.
